“As a working mom of triplets, I know the challenges facing local families. I’m running for State Senate because Riverside County needs a Senator with a strong track record of getting things done and igniting positive change for our region. I know I am uniquely qualified to amplify and uplift the voices of working families in the Inland Empire and ensure that they are heard on the Senate Floor. With your support, we can continue to build a brighter future together.“
Since first being elected to the State Legislature in 2016, Democrat Sabrina Cervantes has listened to residents and community leaders. She has authored 49 new laws to help local schools, veterans, and small businesses. She has secured more than $650 million in state funding for Inland Empire infrastructure to reduce local traffic, build new parks and green spaces, and expand the medical school at UC Riverside.
Sabrina will fight for our values by standing against extremists who would take away women’s rights, roll back environmental protections, and undermine our sacred right to vote.
When she is elected to the State Senate, her policy agenda will include:
PROTECTING ABORTION RIGHTS
Sabrina Cervantes, a working mother of triplets, has been a longtime and unwavering champion of reproductive freedom. As a member of the State Assembly, she has been one of the authors of new laws to protect privacy and security at facilities providing abortions and prevent healthcare providers who provide reproductive care in California from being sued by out-of-state extremists. That is why Sabrina has earned a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood and co-authored the constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights in our state constitution.
ACHIEVING UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE COVERAGE
While serving in the State Assembly, Sabrina Cervantes has been a strong advocate for affordable healthcare and improved health outcomes for kids and families. She secured significant state funding to expand the medical school at UC Riverside Medical School and authored new laws to improve access to maternal mental healthcare and neonatal care. When she is elected to the Senate, Sabrina will continue to work towards achieving the goal of universal healthcare coverage in California. That is why she is supported by California nurses.
ADDRESSING THE HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS CRISES
While serving in the State Assembly, Sabrina Cervantes has worked to find real solutions for the housing and homelessness crises. That is why she has championed policies to make it easier to build new affordable housing, including securing $8 million in state funding to refurbish affordable housing in the Inland Empire. She is also working with urgency to increase access to mental healthcare and get people with severe mental illness off the streets and into treatment.
FULLY FUNDING PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Sabrina Cervantes is strongly supported by California teachers because she is fighting to fully fund our system of public education and ensure our local school districts are receiving their fair share of education dollars. She also successfully fought to expand access to preschool and transitional kindergarten for our kids. A graduate of UC Riverside, Sabrina helped lead the successful effort to provide more state financial aid to our students in order to make their dreams of higher education more affordable and accessible.
FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE AND IMPROVING AIR QUALITY
Environmental leaders support Sabrina because she has championed policies to reduce carbon emissions, promote sustainability, mitigate rising sea levels, and protect local air quality. She authored a new law that helps make electric vehicles more affordable for working families and supported legislation to protect California’s landmark environmental protection laws from interference by Republicans in Congress. Sabrina also secured more than $60 million in state funding to improve local parks and protect green spaces in the Inland Empire.
CREATING WELL-PAYING, LOCAL JOBS FOR WORKING FAMILIES
Sabrina Cervantes knows that the path to growing prosperity for the Inland Empire is through supporting our small businesses and creating local, well-paying jobs for working families in our region. That is why as Chair of the Assembly Committee on Jobs and Economic Development, she led our economic recovery and worked with local businesses to fix supply chain issues. In her first seven years in the State Legislature, Sabrina has proven herself to be a responsive and effective advocate for creating new jobs in Riverside County. That includes securing $33 million in state funding to open a new trade school in Riverside County for in-demand job skills, one of only two such trade schools in Southern California.
When she is elected to the State Senate, Sabrina will work to:
-Support local small businesses, encourage the creation of well-paying, local jobs in the Inland Empire, and promote entrepreneurism.
-Invest in clean energy technology in order to create good-paying green jobs.
-Expand access to college and job-training programs to ensure our workforce can meet the demands of our changing economy.
KEEPING NEIGHBORHOODS SAFE AND ENDING GUN VIOLENCE
Sabrina Cervantes knows nothing is more important than keeping our families and neighborhoods safe, and that is why she is supported by California firefighters. In the State Assembly, she works with local first responders to ensure that they have the tools and training needed to keep us safe, provide fast emergency response times, and improve local responses to wildfires.
Sabrina also believes that everyone should feel safe in our homes, schools, and churches, free from fear of gun violence. She has a record of standing up to the National Rifle Association (NRA) and fighting for common-sense gun safety laws, like a new law she authored that keeps guns out of the hands of convicted domestic abusers.
SUPPORTING OUR VETERANS
Sabrina Cervantes served as Chair of the State Assembly’s Select Committee on Veteran Employment and Education. Since being elected to the State Legislature in 2016, she has worked with leaders from both sides of the aisle to expand access to college and job-training programs for California veterans. She also secured significant state funding to build a new veterans resource center at Norco College and authored a new law helping student veterans receive community college credit for their military training. Sabrina comes from a family with a long tradition of military service, which dates back to World War II.*
REDUCING TRAFFIC
Sabrina Cervantes understands that Inland Empire commuters are losing too much time each day sitting in traffic. That is why she fought to secure over $427 million in new funding for major transportation projects in our region that will reduce traffic and make our roads, bridges, and freeways safer.
